What is Neuromuscular Therapy?

Neuromuscular Therapy, also referred to as 'Integrative Neurosomatic Therapy' is a physical therapy methodology developed for assessing, treating, and preventing soft tissue injuries and chronic pain.

Well researched soft-tissue manipulation techniques are used to restore postural integrity and eliminate the causes of most neuromuscular pain patterns.

Treatment is designed to guide the client through the five stages of rehabilitation:

1. Eliminate sources of pain (muscle spasm etc)

2. Restore functional range of motion (flexibility)

3. Restore proper biomechanics

4. Increase muscle strength and endurance

5. Increase functional training

What is Neuromuscular Pain?

Myofascia can become dysfunctional through activity or lack of! Poor posture, over / under use and injury are some of the reasons why this happens.

Once the myofascia is not operating properly, it cannot receive the nutrients it needs, get rid of wastes or most importantly, perform its function. This can result in a multitude of problems which can directly or indirectly lead to pain. The following is a list of some of the causes of pain and dysfunction and what it may feel like to the client:

Trigger points burning or aching pain down a limb or to another part of the body.

Ischemic tissue joints with tight, restricted movements.

Nerve entrapment / compression pins & needles, tingling sensations.

Muscles with increased / decreased tone tired, overworked muscles and instability of joints.

Muscle spasm twitching, aching muscles, can spasm when doing small activities

Poor muscle recruitment hard to use or activate some muscles or always overuse the same ones
